Sea salt is credited with healing properties, it is used for medical purposes, and great importance is attached to the possibility of rehabilitation measures in salt water. How useful is swimming in the salt sea?
The difference between sea water and river water is not only its salty-bitter taste, but also its greater transparency and the ability to more actively influence health.
Sea water contains more than 50 different components, some of which give it a salty taste and are also responsible for other properties. Which sea is the saltiest?
1. Dead Sea
It acquired its unique composition and healing properties precisely due to evaporation. It is unique because it contains only 25-30% sodium chloride, while in other seas of the world it makes up 77% of the total salt composition of water. The salinity level reaches 340-350 ‰. The level of magnesium in the waters of the Dead Sea is also very high - up to 50%.
2. Red Sea
But the Red Sea is also salty on the planet - the salinity indicator reaches 41 grams of salt per liter of water (up to 40%). Atmospheric precipitation replenishes it in a very small amount - up to 100 mm per year, while the volume of evaporation is quite large, up to 2000 mm per year. The sea is replenished only from one source - the Gulf of Aden.
3. Mediterranean Sea
However, a serious contender for this "title" is the Mediterranean Sea. In some places, the salinity level in it reaches 39%. People cannot drink salty water, therefore they wonder why there is such a rich living world in such a salty sea. In the Mediterranean Sea there are seals, sea turtles, 550 fish species, more than 70 endemic fish species, as well as crayfish, octopuses, crabs, lobsters, squids and many more representatives of the marine world.
4. Barents Sea
The Barents Sea claims to be one of the saltiest. In its surface layers, the salinity level ranges from 34, 5-35%.
5. Black Sea
The Black Sea is also one of the least salty seas in the world, although the salinity values in it are different, depending on the depth. Many rivers flow into the Black Sea, they constantly enrich it with fresh water, so really salty water - with a salinity indicator of up to 26-30% - is only at great depths. The average salinity is 17-18%. The surface layers of the Black Sea contain up to 17 grams of salt per liter of water. Due to the low salinity of the Black Sea, flora and fauna are rather limited, at least in comparison with the Mediterranean and other salty seas. Sea creatures like more than 20% salinity. At the same time, the Black Sea is considered unique due to another factor - the content of hydrogen sulfide. At a depth of 200 meters and deeper, bacteria live in it that produce hydrogen sulfide. There are no more such seas on Earth.
6. Caspian Sea
The Caspian Sea is very salty. The highest indicator of its salinity is 13.5%. There are also many living creatures in it - more than 1,800 species and 728 species of plants. The closest "competitor" of the Red Sea in terms of salinity is the Dead Sea. Water evaporation is one of the factors that determines the salinity of the sea. The more intense the evaporation, the more salts it contains. Their composition determines the effect of water on the human body and other living beings.
7. Sea of Azov
The least salty is the Sea of Azov - the salinity index in it is close to 11%.
What is the use of the sea?
A person comes into contact with natural salt water. The waves have a massage effect, swimming in sea water increases vitality, hardens, strengthens the immune system, has an anti-stress effect. Sea bathing helps to effectively rehabilitate after injuries, with skin diseases, in particular, eczema and psoriasis.
However, the benefits of staying by the sea are not only in the water, but also in the air. The sea coast has mainly high atmospheric pressure, clean, ionized air, a high content of ozone and beneficial marine vapors of iodine, sodium chloride, bromine in the air.
Perhaps the only category of people who do not want to be by the sea are those who have recently undergone surgery. When enough time has passed for the operated area to heal, you can go to the sea again. On the other hand, with small scratches or injuries, the sea has a healing effect. It is very useful to be by the sea for the elderly, those who have diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, endocrine disorders
